35th Annual Midland Artists Guild Juried Exhibit Award of Excellence

Here it stands!  My very first art piece name “In Deed Roses” receives my first ever award from an exhibition!  The prize was received at the opening reception of the 35th Annual Midland Artists Guild Juried Exhibition

Auto shock came over me when the announcer and jurist were ready for me on the stage for the Award of Excellence.  I must admit I got teary eyed on the way up and in no way was expecting it to compete with over 100 works on display.

The piece spills down with blue transparent acetate rectangles with 45 different figures spreading vertically and horizontally.  Each individual idea for the poses came straight to my brain with no sight.  The artwork hangs on a silver frame 6 feet above the ground.

The award came with a cash prize of $100, gift restaurant certificates from Stacker’s Grill & Cafe Americano.

Free admission to see the exhibit Creative 360 Art Gallery in Midland, Michigan running April 5th- May 12th.

As most know, I have no children or plan to in the future.  This piece is my expression of what I would act like if I was to be in the delivery room.  There are seven heads: really coming from my branch of personality reality when I freak out or in pain.  Being nude also freaks me out!!  Feel free to comment or like!

Character Art Design School on Udemy

Can you say draw for six hours a day everyday?  Ouch!  This time I have really gone bonkers on my new certificate course with 119 lessons and over 230 hours of lectures.

Already have a load of homework and it thrills me to no end!!  The art “themes” I am drawing is at 45 items and range from high heels to sunglasses where I need to spend an hour with each one in different angles.  Took me four hours to draw over 200 tries trying to get the high heels just right!

My work is critiqued by other students and the teacher!  I can’t move on until I get all my work done!  Yikes!

In my overall theme, 6-8 hours three times a week, I have to work on my overall imaginative character and I picked a woman giving birth.  Ironically, I have no children yet I love hearing stories about the emotions involved.  Lots on even talking or bringing up the topic with my friends.  Even can digest all the horror stories!

Good thing I studied embryology in college so the topic does not freak me out.  Having a child is a miracle and I think my work will show that it is worth the pain in the end.  Planning on including the dad, doctors and nurses for sub-characters.

Promise on keeping you full of my work as I go along on this journey.  Taking a slam 5 years in medical science or “Medical Illustration” is what I earned with my Bachelor of Science degree is in.  Thought the fine art Bachelor of Arts degree also helped me along as well.

Wish me good luck!  I can only get freakin’ better right?

Dino Sketchy

Sitting in my sister’s living room and practicing a new technique of crosshatch.  It pretty much is a new shading enlightenment and something I found in my first Drawing book.  I now play more with shapes and how to use my strokes from left to right in a upward motion.  I spend time Reading 20 pages of books about art is ultra important to me in recent years.  Yes Art Nerd in the house.

Branching Image Selected for Local Art Competition

CMH

Announcing local artist Heather Deogracia for art competition held by CMMH (Central Michigan Mental Health) now on display in the Midland location. The theme of the artwork contest was “Expressions and Moods in your Lifetime” with the size set at a 16″ x 24″. The call to artists deadline was set on November 1 of 2018. Deogracia received a cash prize of $50 for the winning image and will remain in the lobby of the office complex.

Bugs Being Pretty

Have not had a realistic drawing stream until I came across a book about drawing bugs…I know it was for a child yet the actual shapes made it 100% easier.  I have these really awesome 2H pencils that are soft and after repetitive motion that creates black tones.  This is just the beginning and spent a few hours with this one.  Sometimes I feel like a “real” artist.

Petting Medical Science

Lately I have been thinking way back of interesting things in my mind on subjects I really used to know when I earned my degree in science and art.  These are my latest abstract black and white images and plan to show you three color possibilities when I am done with watercolor.  Enjoy and share at your will.  I also really love comments if you have free time. Tah Tah for now!  Heather Dawn

A Day in the Life of an Artist

One must wonder what an artist does in one day.  This girl is a drawing addict and it can last for hours if I am in the “mood”.   I usually do abstract when I first wake up and sketches at the end of my day.  Relaxes me for bed time believe it or not.  I’m working on my graphic novel so I am putting in a lot of time trying to get the character worked out.  Time for my lunch and nap…hard at work again after that.  In addition to all this art, I am currently reading three art books at the same time and plan to start going to Creative 360 more often.  Love my life!

Legacy Trust Award Collection Entry

With four years selection for the state-wide competition, here is the image that I did last night named “Another Kiss to the Frog” for the Grand Rapids Museum of Arts.  This size is larger than I am used to at 18 x 24 yet I had more fun with detail work.  I kept it in the lightest pencil as my tool, 4H.  Hope you like it!
